The British Teams In The Qualifiers Review
England 2-0 Lithuania
The Three Lions had no problems to record another victory in the qualifiers for The World Cup 2018. This time, the Gareth Southgate’s players beat Lithuania 2-0 at Wembley. Jermaine Defoe waited a lot to see his name on the team sheet again, and his patience was paid. The Sunderland’s forward opened the score in the 22nd minute. However, in the added time of the first half, the visitors could have equalized, but John Stones cleared the ball from the line. In the 66th minute, the substitute player Jamie Vardy scored England’s second goal of the game.
Scotland 1-0 Slovenia
The Scottish players started the match very well, as they created a lot of goal-scoring chances, putting under pressure one of the best goalkeepers in the world – Jan Oblak. Russell Martin scored an early goal after a corner, but it was disallowed for a foul, made by the Norwich City’s defender. Bezjak had the chance to open the score for Slovenia in the 18th minute, but his shot was parried by Gordon.
The best chance for the hosts in the first half came in the 33rd minute, when Griffiths hit the bar from a close distance. Just two minutes later the forward hit the post after a great shot from inside the box. That was so unlucky… The visitors cleared the ball into a corner. The cross was excellent and the header also, but a Slovenian defender cleared the ball from the line. After the break, there were less goal-scoring chances. 15 minutes before the end of the game, Anya’s shot was saved by Oblak. Eventually, the Fulham’s forward Chris Marin found the net with 2 minutes to go, securing the 3 points for Scotland.
Northern Ireland 2-0 Norway
The Norn Iron opened the score early in the game. In the second minute, Jamie Ward found the net with a beautiful diagonal shot from inside the box. The Norwegians responded accurately, and they created a couple of chances before the break. Soderlund hit the bar for Norway in the 27th minute. About 5 minutes later Davis found Washington with a great pass and the forward doubled the score!
