The Champions League | 14/15.02 Matches Preview
Benfica vs. Borussia Dortmund
The Portuguese team has only lost 6 of their last 29 home games in The Champions League. On the other hand, Benfica haven’t gone further than the quarterfinals since 1990, when they became the runners-up. The total record of Benfica against German teams is 10 wins, 9 draws and 11 defeats.
The German team won its group, finishing above the last year’s winners Real Madrid! Borussia Dortmund have eliminated of the European Cup (Champions League) Benfica in season 1963-64 (6-2 on aggregate). The Portuguese have won the first leg 2-1, but in the replay Dortmund have smashed them 5-0. The Germans have eventually reached the semi-finals of the competition. It’s interesting that Borussia Dortmund have met another Portuguese team – Boavista on 4 occasions (2 victories and 2 defeats).
These two teams have recently been very strong, as the chances are equal. With the history and the strength of both sides – it is a 50-50 match, so I recommend you to avoid betting on it, before the start!
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Barcelona
PSG have recently been on fire, as the team won their last 4 competitive matches, melting the distance to the top in the French Ligue 1 to just 3 points. The Parisians bought Julian Draxler of Wolfsburg and Goncalo Guedes of Benfica and seem to be stronger than they were before a couple of months. On the other hand, The Parisians struggle when they play against Barcelona. The French team has won twice against the Catalans, while there have been 3 draws and 4 victories for Barcelona.
The Frenchmen were unlucky to be drawn against Barcelona in 3 consecutive editions of The Champions League (2013-2015) and The Catalans were the final winners in all the occasions. Moreover, Barcelona won the only final game between these two teams (1-0) – the final of the Cups Winners’ Cup in 1997. The only time Barcelona have been eliminated by PSG in The Champions League was in 1995 in the quarterfinals (3-2 on aggregate).
Furthermore, Barcelona is the better team with the better players, who have been playing together for a while. I think they will take the victory, as you can give it a try on 2.30 for 2.
Real Madrid vs. Napoli
The Kings of Europe, the 11-time Champions League winners – Real Madrid, will try to set a new record and win the most prestigious European club competition for the 12th time in their history. However, Los Blancos must, firstly, go through the tough Italian task, called Napoli. These two teams have once met in the European Cup’s Round of 16 in 1988, and the Spaniards have won 3-1 on aggregate, having won their home game 2-0.
It looks like this season is the time for Real Madrid to bring the Spanish title back, but the defence of the trophy in The Champions League will be really tough.
To continue with, Napoli have only kept a clean sheet in a visit in The Champions League once for the last 6 years! This happened in the match against Villareal (0-2) in 2011. In addition, Real Madrid have scored at least once in their last 35 home games in The Champions League! So, it’s obvious Los Blancos will find the net at least once, but the question is how many goals exactly they will score. The option you can choose with ease is betting on 1 (1.57).
Bayern Munich vs. Arsenal
The sun isn’t shining for the Arsenal’s fans, when their favourite team meets the Bavarian machine Bayern Munich! The Gunners have been drawn twice in a CL group with the German club, winning once, finishing with a draw once and losing twice. As regards to the knockout stage of the European club competition, The Gunners have never managed to eliminate the Bavarians, losing the battle on 3 occasions. So, the history is against Arsenal.
Moreover, The Gunners don’t look in a good shape. They lost 2 of their last 3 competitive matches, losing almost all their chances of winning the title in The Premier League. On the other hand, Bayern Munich can feel the security of their 7-point leadership in The Bundesliga. The odds look pretty high for Bayern Munich’s victory – 1.50.
