The FA Cup | 4th Round Review

The 4th round of The FA Cup offered us a lot of interesting matches. There were again lots of surprises, as we saw 5 more Premier League teams leave the competition.

The only draw of the 4th round of the cup was between Derby County and Leicester City. Both teams finished with a 2-2 draw. Darren Bent scored an own goal in the 8th minute to give The Foxes the lead, but the striker made up to his teammates and equalized 13 minutes later. Then, the midfielder Craig Bryson scored the second goal for Derby, but Wes Morgan found the net 4 minutes before the end of the game, sending it to a replay.

The biggest surprise of the weekend was at Anfield, where Liverpool were eliminated by Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Wolves took the lead after only 53 seconds into the game, after a good header by Stearman. 4 minutes before the break, Weimann doubled the score for the visitors. Divock Origi found the net for The Reds in the 86th minute, but that was not enough for The Merseysiders to achieve anything from the game.

One of the most dramatic matches of the weekend was between The Spurs and Wycombe Wanderers. The Chairboys scored twice within the first half and it looked like the 4th tier club was close to the next stage of the competition, but Tottenham Hotspur equalized in the 64th minute. Then, Garry Thompson found the net for Wycombe again, just 7 minutes before the end of the game. However, The Spurs managed to win the battle in the very last minutes of the match with Alli’s and Son’s goals.

Oxford United knocked Newcastle United out of the competition after an astonishing 3-0 victory at The Kassam Stadium. All the goals came after crosses. The Magpies had the chance to equalize, when the score was 1-0 to the hosts, but Mitrovic missed from the penalty spot.

The teams of The National League (5th tier) Lincoln City and Sutton United made it to the 5th round of the FA Cup! The Imps smashed the leaders in The Championship – Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1, while Sutton United recorded a 1-0 victory against Leeds United. It will be interesting who will play these two teams in the next round.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United had no problems to find their places into the next stage of The FA Cup. The other teams, which qualified for the 5th round were Huddersfield Town, Burnley, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Fulham.
