Sergio Aguero is one of the most explosive forwards in football. With his great technique and finishing abilities, the Argentine is a goal-scoring machine. Called by everyone “Kun”, Aguero’s nickname dates back to his childhood. It was given to him by his grandparents, because Sergio’s favourite TV cartoon character “Kum-Kum”.
To continue with, Sergio joined the Argentine youth team of Independiente at the age of 9. He was so good, that the coach of the team Oscar Ruggeri gave him the chance to play for the senior team at the age of 15! Just 7 months later Aguero became the youngest footballer to play in a Copa Libertadores match, being selected against the Peruvian team Cienciano. The Argentinian forward spent his first 4 seasons in professional football in Independiente, before leaving for Atletico Madrid in 2006.
On 3rd September 2006 he made his debut for the national team of Argentina in a friendly match against Brazil. Since then, Sergio Aguero has scored 34 goals in 77 matches for his nation. He has taken part in 2 World Cups (2010 and 2014) and 3 Copa America tournaments. The forward went on as a substitute in the World Cup final match against Germany in 2014, which remains the biggest match of his career so far. However, he will strive for winning the biggest football tournament until the end of his professional career.
However, he had a really successful spell at Atletico Madrid, helping the team win the Europa League in 2010. Sergio Aguero bagged over 100 goals in 5 seasons for Los Rojiblancos in all competitions, before being sold to Manchester City on 28th July 2011 for £38 m. And Aguero immediately proved he’s worth! He lifted the Premier League trophy in the same season, scoring a goal in the 4th minute of the added time in the last game of the campaign against QPR, which was crucial for winning the title!
Since then, the Argentine goal-scoring machine has become the most important Manchester City player, winning the title again in 2014. He has found the net on 149 occasions since his arrival at Manchester. In his overall career so far, Aguero has scored more than 300 goals in official games and he is now 28 years old and is in his best form. So, we should only expect more great things from one of the best forwards in the world. Moreover, the Italian coach Roberto Mancini has said that Aguero “is a photocopy of Romario”, as a comment on the Argentine’s playing style.
In his personal life, Aguero is one of Lionel Messi’s best friends. Sergio has described Lionel like “a brother” to him. The forward was married to one of Diego Maradona’s daughters – Gianinna. The couple has a son – Benjamin, who was born in 2009 in Madrid. However, Sergio and Gianinna split in 2013.
The forward has recently scored his 109th Premier League goal, which has moved him at 20th position of Premiership’s best scorers, with the same number of goals as Ryan Giggs. And if he keeps scoring like that he can move even further in the list!
