The record is broken!

Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw finished with 12 goals in total in a spectacular match from the group stage of The Champions League. The BVB won against the Polish team 8-4 at Signal-Iduna-Park in Dortmund. The final score was impressive, because it broke the record for the most goals in one match in The Champions League.

The record was held by the match between Monaco and Deportivo La Coruna, which was played on 5th November 2003 and finished with an 8-3 victory for the French team. Dado Prso was the hero then, bagging 4 goals in Deportivo’s net. Several months later Monaco reached the final, but they lost to Porto 0-3.

To continue with, Borussia Dortmund were shocked in the 10th minute by their opponents from Poland. Aleksandar Prijovic showed a great goal-scoring instinct and found the net with a shot with the outer part of his leg. Then, Shinji Kagawa scored twice until the 18th minute of the game to turn things around. Just 2 minutes later, Nuri Sahin took advantage of a mistake by the goalkeeper Cierzniak and sent the ball into the Legia’s net – 3-1!

However, the Polish team proved they never give up and scored their second of the match in the 24th minute. Prijovic tucked the ball in, to see his name on the score-sheet for the second time. A couple of minutes later he could score his hat-trick, but was denied by the woodwork! Dortmund scored two more goals until the half time. Ousmane Dembele and Marco Reus were the goal-scorers for The BVB.

The German international – Reus scored again just 7 minutes after the break, making Legia Warsaw’s task almost impossible. Then, Miroslav Radovic again showed his great skills in midfield. Until the end of the match, he provided two assists, while Dortmund scored 2 more goals.

With the defeat, the Polish team hasn’t any chances of proceeding to the next stage of the competition, but Jacek Magiera’s players can qualify for The Europa League. For the purpose, they need a victory against Sporting Lisbon in the last match of the group stage. Furthermore, the match will be held in Poland, and you know what happened when Real Madrid visited Legia – 3-3!

In conclusion, the battle for the first place in the group remains until the very last game, which is between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Los Blancos beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1 in Portugal and saved their chances for winning the group. Zinedine Zidane’s players need a victory to win the first place, but it won’t be an easy task against the in-form Tuchel’s players.

Such move of the match, I did not expect. The game was very unusual, and not less unusual result. Many mistakes were made by us. In the end, we managed to win. I am sorry for Roman Weidenfeller. The blatant mistakes that we have made, I will address. We left so much space in the defence, and we’ve got a lot of trouble with it. Thomas Tuchel
