The Greatest Comeback | Barcelona 6-1 PSG
Barcelona did something really big in the modern history of football! The Catalans were 0-4 down against the strong team of Paris Saint-Germain after the first leg of the Round of 16 in The Champions League and made it to the quarterfinals! The Luis Enrique’s players smashed The Parisians 6-1 and qualified for the next stage with 6-5 on aggregate.
Los Blaugranes put PSG under pressure from the very first minutes of the game. They were quite lucky to find the net after just 3 minutes of playing time, when Luis Suarez took advantage of a mistake by the goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. Then, The Catalans kept possessing the ball, as usual, but they couldn’t create any clear goal-scoring opportunities. However, Andres Iniesta’s persistence in the 40th minute was rewarded. The Spaniard forced Kurzawa to send the ball into his own net. 2-0 Barcelona!
The Luis Enrique’s players started the second half with a huge motivation to equalize the aggregate score and just 5 minutes within the second half, they were awarded with a penalty, which was converted into a goal by Lionel Messi. It looked like Barcelona will have no problems to turn things around, when in the 62nd minute, Edinson Cavani found the Catalans’ net after an assist by Kurzawa.
Everyone thought that this away goal will be the end of Barcelona’s participation in The Champions League this campaign, but the Brazilian magician Neymar didn’t think so. With just less than 3 minutes to go, the 25-year-old forward scored an outstanding free-kick. This goal could have been prevented by Trapp, but the goalkeeper was having the worst day of his career – making lots of mistakes and allowing Barcelona’s forwards to find his net time after time.
In the last minute of the regular time, Lionel Messi made a superb 40-metres pass, which brought Suarez on a clear position. The Uruguayan forward was brought down by Marquinhos and the referee Aytekin blew his whistle for a penalty for the second time in the game. Neymar had no problems to score from the spot and gave the Barcelona’s supporters a beam of hope. The PSG players were shaken by the growing pressure in front of their goal and in the last minute of the added time, the substitute player Sergi Roberto scored the winning goal for his team! That was his third goal in The Champions League, but how important it was!
It’s difficult to explain what just happened in words… I am very happy for the fans. Any of the kids, who were here tonight will never forget this crazy night. I told Sergi that I trust him a lot and asked him why he never score for the first team… And, fortunately he did it exactly when we needed it the most. Luis Enrique
