The 2016-17 season was John Terry’s final campaign with Chelsea’s colours. The 36-year-old defender recorded his last Premier League appearance for The Blues in the final match of the season against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. The Chelsea’s captain was substituted in the 26th minute of the match and received deserved applause from the Blues’ fans and his teammates.
Terry spent 22 years at Chelsea. However, he started to play professionally for the club in 1998, when in October, he recorded his first game for The Blues in The League Cup against Aston Villa. Then in the next campaign, John Terry had a short spell, on loan at Nottingham Forest, but Chelsea immediately brought him back. Since then, the defender have become an integral part of the Blues’ first team.
The brave defender spent 19 seasons in the club, recording 492 Premier League matches and scoring 41 goals. The total number of the games he has played for Chelsea is 723 in all competitions. Moreover, John Terry is Chelsea’s most successful club captain. He was chose by Jose Mourinho in 2004.
The Blues’ legend won the Premier League title on 5 occasions. In addition, he lifted The FA Cup (5 times), The League Cup (three times), The Champions League and The Europa League. Furthermore, Terry won 78 apps for England and scored 6 goals for The Three Lions.
To continue with, the captain recently scored his last league goal for The Blues. He opened the score against Watford in Chelsea’s 4-3 victory against The Hornets on 15th May. However, in his last Stamford Bridge start, John Terry came off in the 26th minute (his shirt number) and all the people at the stadium paid tribute to him. Chelsea eventually won the game 5-1, as Willian, Eden Hazard, Pedro and Batshuayi (twice) scored the goals for the Londoners. That was Chelsea’s 7 consecutive victory in all tournaments. The Blues finished the campaign with 30 league victories of 38 matches and 93 points won. Now, they will meet Arsenal in The FA Cup final game on 27th May.
In conclusion, John Terry is a bright example for professionalism. He is Chelsea’ most successful captain and he deserves his place in the hall of fame after 22 years at the club.
