Messi Scored His 500th Goal | Real 2-3 Barcelona
Barcelona recorded an extremely precious victory against Real Madrid, in a breathtaking thriller at Santiago Bernabeu last Sunday. The game of the 33rd round in the Primera Division finished with a 2-3 victory for The Catalans, who are back in the battle for the title! Lionel Messi was the hero for Barcelona, scoring his second goal of the night in the added time, which secured the three points for The Catalans.
Zinedine Zidane played Gareth Bale, who just recovered from an injury, which was one of the French manager’s mistakes. He wanted to use his three best players in attack – Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale, but the Welshman left injured after 39 minutes. Luis Enrique was forced to use Paco Alcacer instead of Neymar, who was suspended for the game. Both teams used a scheme of 4-3-3.
The best two teams in Spain offered a real spectacle, attacking from the first to the very last minute of the game. Barcelona created a very good goal-scoring chance in the 19th minute, when Alcacer passed the ball to Suarez, but the Uruguayan couldn’t find the target with a volley shot. Just two minutes later, Ronaldo dribbled with the ball and made a good attempt, but Marc ter Stegen parried the shot.
The game was really dynamic and just a few seconds after Ronaldo’s chance, Gareth Bale also had the opportunity to score, but his volley was too weak and ter Stegen had no problems catching the ball. However, Casemiro opened the score in the 29th minute, when Marcelo crossed into the box, Ramos hit the post, but then the midfielder made a simple tap-in and sent the ball into the net. 1-0!
To continue with, The Catalans became even more motivated after the conceded goal and in the 33rd minute they equalized. Busquets found Rakitic on the right and the Croatian passed the ball to Messi, who went through two Real Madrid’s defenders and put the ball behind Keylor Navas. 1-1! In the 73rd minute of the game, Barcelona managed to turn things around! Ivan Rakitic received the ball outside the box, feinted Kroos and took a shot with his left foot, giving his team the lead for the first time in the match.
Just 3 minutes later the situation became a nightmare for Real Madrid, because Sergio Ramos was shown a direct red card for a dangerous tackle against Lionel Messi. That was the Ramos’ 22nd red card as a Real Madrid player. It’s interesting that this match was one of the worst for the Real Madrid’s captain. He couldn’t make a single challenge, losing the battle against the Barcelona’s forwards.
Even though Real Madrid were with 10 men, Los Blancos managed to equalize in the 85th minute. Marcelo made a cross and James Rodriguez was the most resourceful in the 6-yard-box, putting the ball behind ter Stegen.
The culmination came at the very end of the game. Lionel Messi was the big hero for Barcelona. The Argentinean scored just 15 seconds before the end of the stoppage time of the game, to steal the points for his team. That was his 500th goal for the club! Sergi Roberto had a great merit for the goal. He dribbled more than 50 metres, setting up the counter attack for the goal.
Now, both teams have won 75 points each, but Real Madrid have played one game less. However, if these two teams finish with the same points, Barcelona will win the league – because this great victory!
