Real Madrid | Road To The Final

The Kings of Europe – Real Madrid reached their 15th Champions League final. Los Blancos have won 11 of these games, which makes them the most successful team in the European club competitions. Now, the Zinedine Zidane’s players will meet Juventus in the most important, and probably the most difficult, match of the season.

Against Italian teams

Real Madrid have played against Italian teams in the European club competitions on 69 occasions. Los Blancos have recorded 33 victories, 11 draws and 25 defeats. 18 of these 69 matches are exactly against Juventus.

When playing against The Old Lady in the eliminations’ stages of The Champions League, Real Madrid have been knocked out on 4 out of 6 occasions. In addition, these two teams have already met in the final match (1998). Los Blancos were the winners in this final. The only goal of the game was scored by the Yugoslavian forward Predrag Mijatovic in the 66th minute. On the other hand, one of the Real Madrid’s lost final games is against an Italian team – Inter Milan (1-3 in 1964).

Road to the final

The Zinedine Zidane’s players only lost once of their 12 Champions League matches this campaign, and they did it in the second leg of the semi-finals against Atletico Madrid 1-2. However, the defeat wasn’t fatal for Real Madrid. To continue with, Los Blancos finished in second position in their group, leaving behind Borussia Dortmund.

Two 2-2 draws against the German team and a 3-3 thriller against Legia Warszawa meant that the Zidane’s men would play Napoli in the Round of 16. Real Madrid won both the games against the Italians 3-1 (6-2 on aggregate). Then, Los Blancos had very difficult tasks against Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, but they demonstrated a world-class performance in attack, scoring 10 goals in these 4 games.

Injuries and bans

One of Real Madrid’s stars – Gareth Bale will surely be available to play against Juventus in the final game. The Welshman suffered from a calf injury, but he is now fit and will be able to help his teammates.

Other interesting stats

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the top goal-scorer of all time in The Champions League, will try to add more goals to his name. The Portuguese star has scored 104 goals, but he is followed by Lionel Messi (94 goals). It’s interesting that Cristiano has taken part in 20 final games in his career. He has won 13 of them and have scored 14 goals. Can he do it again?

I have the Real Madrid DNA. I will always be a Real Madrid fan. This is the club of my life. What I’ve been through with the club is great. Zinedine Zidane
