Real Madrid’s unbeaten run

Can anyone stop them? It’s been now 40 games since the last Real Madrid’s defeat! Los Blancos managed to equalize in the last seconds of the replay match against Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in The Copa Del Rey to keep their unbeaten run alive!

The Red and Whites started the match very well and opened the score in the 10th minute, when Danilo put the ball into his own net. However, Real Madrid equalized shortly after the break. The 20-year-old winger Marco Asensio ran through the whole pitch to nutmeg the goalkeeper and find the net.

On the other hand, Sevilla looked stronger on the pitch and created much more goal-scoring opportunities than their opponent. Logically, the host team took the lead again. The new signing Stevan Jovetic scored his first goal with Sevilla’s colours in the 53rd minute. 24 minutes later Iborra increased Los Rojiblancos’ lead to 3-1!

It looked like Real Madrid’s unbeaten run will come to an end, but the referee blew his whistle for a penalty in the 83rd minute, which was converted into a goal by Sergio Ramos. In the added time of the game, Karim Benzema showed his great individual skills and equalized the score – 3-3!

The Real Madrid’s unbeaten run started on 9th April 2016, when Los Blancos won against Eibar 4-0 in Primera Division. Since then, they have recorded 31 victories and 9 defeats in the all tournaments they are taking part in (Primera Division, The Champions League, Copa Del Rey, The FIFA Club World Cup and The UEFA Super Cup).

Furthermore, Real Madrid could be very happy that they named Zinedine Zidane for a manager of the team. The French football legend took the team on 4th January 2016. Since then, Los Blancos have only been defeated in two competitive matches. The manager has a winning percentage of 75 (42-12-2)!

To continue with, this unbeaten run of 40 matches is the best in Spain, but if Real Madrid want to be on the top of the European record, they must keep on going for a few months. The record holder is Celtic (1915 – 1917), which team has set a record of 62 consecutive competitive matches without a defeat in top-level tournaments. However, Real Madrid are just 2 games away from equaling Milan (42 in 1991-1992) and Ajax (42 in 1995 – 1996), 3 matches down from Juventus’ record (43 matches in 2011 – 2012), 5 down from Dinamo Zagreb (2014 – 2015) and 8 down from Benfica (1963 – 1965). Another significant team, with such a record is Union SG of Belgium, which in the period between 1933 and 1935 recorded 60 consecutive matches without a single defeat! Just 3 days after this crucial 3-3 draw against Sevilla, Real Madrid will have to repeat their visit to Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, this time the match will be of the Primera Division. So, if Zinedine Zidane’s players don’t lose this match, they have very good chances of keeping their unbeaten run alive, as their further games are against Malaga, Real Sociedad, Celta and Osasuna.

In conclusion, we must admit that Real Madrid are currently the strongest team in the world – the stats are showing this! And I am questioning myself whether Barcelona’s hegemony has come to an end? Because with such performances, Real Madrid are going to win everything possible this campaign!
